- 3 ripe avocados I recommend Mexican Hass
- 2 Roma tomatoes diced
- ½ red onion diced
- 1 jalapeño chopped (you can remove the seeds for milder heat)
- 1 lime juiced
- 2 tbsp cilantro chopped
- ¼ tsp salt or to taste
- ¼ tsp black pepper or to taste
Prepare the ingredients
Cut the avocados in half, remove the pit, and scoop the flesh into a mixing bowl.
Dice the tomatoes and red onion.
Chop the jalapeño and cilantro.
Cut the lime in half and juice it.
Mash the Avocados
Using a fork or potato masher, mash the avocados to your preferred consistency. For a chunkier guacamole, mash less; for a smoother version, mash more.
Mix Everything Together
Add the diced tomatoes, onion, jalapeño, cilantro, and lime juice to the bowl. Season with salt and pepper. Gently mix until well combined, being careful not to over-mash the avocado.
How to choose the best avocados:
Pick ripe avocados by gently squeezing them - they should yield slightly but still feel firm. Need to speed up ripening? Place them in a paper bag with a banana for a day or two.
How to Reduce Onion Bite:
Soak diced onions in cold water for 5-10 minutes to mellow their sharpness before adding them to the guacamole.
How to Keep Your Guacamole Fresh & Green:
- Use fresh lime juice to help prevent browning (about 2 teaspoons per avocado).
- If you're making it ahead, press plastic wrap directly onto the guacamole’s surface to minimize air exposure.
- Another trick: add a thin layer of water on top of the guacamole. Pour it off before serving - it won’t dilute the flavor!
How to Customize the Spice Level:
- For a milder guacamole, remove the jalapeño seeds and white membrane.
- For extra heat, leave them in or add a pinch of cayenne pepper.
