- 6 oz buttercream frosting, at room temperature (170 g)
- Red food gel color
- Navy blue food gel color
- Chex Mix
- Shortbread cookies
- Pretzels
- Popcorn
- Strawberries rinsed and dried thoroughly
- Graham crackers
- Chocolate bars
- Red, white, and blue sprinkles
- Themed candies, nuts, or dried fruit optional
Divide the buttercream frosting between three small bowls. Leave one bowl white.
Add red food gel color to one bowl and navy blue food gel color to another. Start with 3 to 5 drops of each color, stir well, then add more if needed.
Transfer each frosting color to a piping bag. If using a piping tip, snip the bag just enough for the tip to fit securely.
Place the board on a damp paper towel or non-slip mat to keep it steady.
Pipe a loose red frosting trail across the board. Let it sit for 10 to 15 seconds, then pipe white frosting alongside or inside the red line.
Pipe the blue frosting around the other colors to create a red, white, and blue trail.
Arrange the graham crackers and chocolate bars around the frosting first.
Fill in the board with pretzels, shortbread cookies, popcorn, and Chex Mix.
Add the strawberries near the frosting trail or tuck them into open spaces.
Finish with red, white, and blue sprinkles.
Chill for 10 to 15 minutes before serving, if desired.
- Use gel food coloring for the brightest color without thinning the frosting.
- Dry the strawberries thoroughly before adding them to the board.
- For the best texture, assemble the full board close to serving time.
- To make this easier for a party, color the frosting ahead of time and portion the snacks into containers. Pipe and assemble the board shortly before serving.
