Red velvet hot chocolate drink

Looking for a drink that’s as cozy as your favorite blanket and as charming as a Valentine’s card? This red velvet hot chocolate is here to sweep you off your feet! Creamy, sweet, and irresistibly smooth, it’s a warm hug in a mug. Perfect for chilly evenings, romantic nights in, or even as a fun treat for a festive gathering, this delightful drink turns an ordinary moment into something extra special. Plus, who can resist the pop of red, fluffy whipped cream, and sprinkles?

Red velvet hot chocolate ingredients

  • 1 cup milk (whole milk is the best)
  • 1 tbsp white chocolate chips – I like like Ghirardelli or Callebaut but any good quality ones will be great
  • 1 tsp sugar (optional)
  • Red food colouring (2-3 drops)
  • Whipped cream
  • Red and pink sprinkles

Step by step hot chocolate recipe

1. In a small saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it starts to steam. Do not let it boil. Stir continuously.

2. Add the white chocolate chips to the saucepan and stir until they are completely melted and incorporated into the milk.  After you add this chocolate chips, take the saucepan from heat while stirring until melted so the chocolate doesn’t overheat and seize.

You can also add a pinch of cinnamon or a drop of vanilla extract for a richer flavor.

3. Taste the mixture and decide if you want to add the sugar or not.

4. Add 2-3 drops of red food coloring to the saucepan and stir well to evenly distribute the color. Add more drops if desired for a deeper red color.

5. Continue heating the mixture on low heat for another 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it is hot and well combined.

6. Remove the saucepan from heat and pour the red velvet hot chocolate into mugs.

7. Top each mug with a generous dollop of whipped cream.

8. Sprinkle red and pink sprinkles over the whipped cream for added decoration. You can also add mini marshmallows or crushed peppermint candies for extra texture and flavor.

Serve immediately and enjoy! If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Reheat gently on the stovetop or in the microwave, whisking well to restore its creamy consistency.

Whether you’re savoring it solo or sharing it with someone special, this Red Velvet Hot Chocolate is pure happiness in every sip. It’s easy to make, fun to decorate, and even more fun to drink. So, whip up a cup, grab your favorite spot on the couch, and let this charming little treat brighten your day (and your taste buds). Cheers to simple joys and sweet moments!
